Your Hockey Vacation!

The CARHA Hockey World Cup is a one-of-a-kind event that gives players the experience of playing in an Olympic-style tournament against recreational hockey teams from all over the world. The hockey and fun and spirited competition is one reason that teams make the trip to Canada every four years, but there is so much more to this tournament than just hockey. The 2022 installment of the CARHA Hockey World Cup will be hosted in beautiful Richmond, British Columbia, the neighbouring city to world-famous Vancouver. In this series, we will explore some of the fun activities that will be offered to you on your trip so you can start planning out your hockey vacation! 

To get things started, we have a few amazing tours to share with you offered by Westcoast Sightseeing. You will have the option of choosing either a Vancouver City + Capilano Suspension Bridge Park Tour or a Grouse Mountain + Capilano Suspension Bridge Park Tour. So get those bucket lists out and start planning! 

Vancouver City + Capilano Suspension Bridge Park Tour

If the combination of city sights and a forest escape is your idea of an ideal day trip, this is the tour for you. Ride and relax with our unique, guided commentary through Vancouver’s vibrant downtown. See spectacular waterfront landmarks, including the sails of Canada Place and the bustling Robson Street shopping strip. Then soak in the view over Lions Gate Bridge as we venture to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Here you will be thrilled with both the natural surroundings and all that the park has to offer. Take a stroll on the Cliffwalk, or saunter with the clouds in the Treetops Adventure. Next up are the sandy shores of English Bay on the west side of Stanley Park, and then a stop to tour the wonders of Granville Island.   1. The Capilano Suspension Bridge will be a very popular off-ice attraction during CARHA 2022. It’s beautiful natural setting, conveniently located just minutes from downtown Vancouver, will be experienced by many participants while creating lasting memories. But the river below has an alternate and eternal memory for the Global Oldtimers (England) hockey team . In September, 2020, just 6 months after CARHA 2020’s cancellation due to implications of Covid 19, our team mate and friend, Ryan Nickerson, along with his son Hugh, were swept off the Capilano River bank in a torrent of water while fishing. Both Ryan and Hugh died. Hugh’s body has never been found. Barb, Ryan’s wife and mother of Hugh, along with daughter Emily miss Ryan’s life force profoundly. Ryan was a wonderful team mate and friend. His international hockey family had been looking forward to sharing the tournament with him. Previously, (Windsor_2016), Ryan had been a catalyst for our Global Oldtimers 55+ division winning team. He had described his involvement as the best hockey experience he had ever had. Ryan couldn’t wait to participate again in Richmond. Ryan, born and raised in Thunder Bay, loved the sport and he loved his hockey community. I would encourage those 2022 CARHA participants who do visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park to remember Ryan, a devoted husband and father who was a wonderful hockey team mate. In a reflective moment, you will feel Ryan Nickerson’s spirit in the swirling foam and lofty mist of the Capilano River below. I will be playing for Ryan.
