September 30, 2022, marks the second annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The Government of Canada states “This day honours the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.” Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30. Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots campaign that started in 2013 to honour the children who survived residential schools and remembers those who never returned home. CARHA Hockey staff will be observing the day by taking time for reflection, education and active listening. Our organization is committed to doing our part to advance truth and reconciliation and engage in meaningful action. We hope you will have time to pause and reflect in your own way on this day, and every day. This year, CARHA Hockey and our partner iPlay Hockey are supporting The Orange Shirt Society and Indspire.
