Day 2 – Game Recaps

After a busy first day, the Molson CARHA Hockey World Cup presented by Lulu Island Winery was back in action for Day #2. Check out our game recaps below: 

Sudseekers vs Muumiot (Lulu Island Winery 55+): 
These teams from Canada and Finland battled hard through the 1st and 2nd periods this morning with both sides being fairly equal in shots. In the 3rd period, the Sudseekers turned up the heat but couldn’t find the back of the net. Muumiot goalie Ari Saaranen recorded the shutout in this 1-0 victory. 

HT Cream vs Bombers (Pizza Pizza 40+): 
HT Cream won their second game of the tournament after peppering Bombers goalie Ian Bell with 50 total shots. HT Cream players #17 Mikko Juvonen and #33 Jarno Hovinen both scored hat-tricks while teammate #75 Lauri Asiala added a goal and 6 assists. 

Vancouver Flames vs Slowhands (Universal Coach Line 70+): 
The Vancouver Flames took a 2-0 lead into the 3rd period before facing an offensive surge from the Finland Slowhands. The Slowhands scored twice in the final 6 minutes of the game forcing an overtime period, where no winner was declared. 

Aussie Kangaroos vs Legends Pub (Vizzy 19+): 
Legends Pub recorded their first win of the tournament defeating the Aussie Kangaroos. Legends player #19 Greg Jensen scored a hat-trick as player #10 Graeme Wood showcased some great passing recording 3 assists. 

SOHA Team Sweden vs Richmond Cowboys 65 (Vancouver Sign Group 65+): 
SOHA goalie #62 Ove Enryd turned away all 18 shots against as his team defeated the Richmond Cowboys by a score of 2-0. Cowboys goalie Bill Cornish also had a strong performance making 18 saves. 

Whistler Winterhaws vs Disepapat 60 (Stanley’s Grill 60+): 
Disepapat 60 continued with their winning ways on Tuesday defeating the Whistler Winterhawks by a score of 5-1. Disepapat player #26 Jukka K scored twice in the victory while teammate #15 Pertti Rastela added a goal and an assist. 

Osteraker Mariners 40 vs Pitea VIP (Gadar Promotions 40+): 
Though Osteraker jumped out to an early lead scoring in the first minute of play, they were unable to stay ahead Pitea found the back of the net 4 times in the second period. Pitea player #18 Patrick Bergstrom scored 3 goals leading his team to a 7-2 victory. 

SSM Hockey vs Beavers 55 (Herbaland 55+): 
After a scoreless first period, the Beavers broke out in the second with 4 goals to SSM’s 1. Beaver #7 Dave Tisdelle added 2 late goals in the 3rd period to end the game with a 7-1 score. 

Pitt Meadows Gamblers vs BIK Karlskoga (Pizza Pizza 40+): 
BIK Karlskoga came out of the gates fast in this one scoring 5 goals in the first period. Led offensively by forward #51 Jonas E, who had 2 goals and 4 assists, the Swedish side cruised to a 10-3 win. 

HC Salem vs Port Alberni Blues (Lulu Island Winery 55+): 
HC Salem recorded their first win of the tournament this morning after defeating the Port Alberni Blues by a score of 6-1. #77 Adil Ibrayev and #55 Petr Yelizarov led the HC Salem team scoring two goals each. 

Aussie Crocodiles vs Richmond HC (Vizzy 19+): 
Richmond HC player #13 Raminder Sall scored 3 goals and recorded 3 assists as his squad defeated the Aussie Crocodiles. Crocodile #34 Jess Hagan scored late in the 3rd period to disrupt the Richmond goalie’s shutout bid. 

Trangsund 45 vs NSWC Angels (Gader Promotions 40+): 
Trangsund came out of the gates hot on Tuesday grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first half the of first period. It appeared to be smooth sailing for the Swedish team as they led 5-3 with 5 minutes left in the game, however NSWC refused to throw in the towel scoring 2 goals late and forcing overtime. No goals were scored in OT resulting in a 5-5 draw. 

Hammarby IF 60 vs Rusty Cranks (Stanley’s Grill 60+): 
#4 Conny Wiklund scored twice in addition to providing two helpers as Hammarby defeated the Rusty Cranks. Goalie #30 Robert Nyqvist turned away all shots in the shutout helping their team collect their first win of the tournament. 

Lindsay Pastimers vs Trangsund 60 (Westcoast Sightseeing 60+): 
Trangsund skater #60 Stefan J. found the back of the net in the first period before both goalies Scott Young and Edward Holyoak stopped all remaining shots. The one goal was enough to secure a Trangsund win 1-0 over the Lindsay Pastimers. 

White Rock Knights vs Orebro IK (Herbaland 55+): 
Both teams exchanged goals in this one with the White Rock Knights taking a 4-3 lead into the third period. The Knights offence broke through in the final period scoring 3 unanswered goals to win the game by a score of 7-3. 

Disepapat 55 vs Oldtimers Val D’Or 55 (Cyclone Taylor Source for Sports 55+): 
Led offensively by #18 Roland Cloutier (2G, 1A), the Oldtimers Val D’Or 55 took 27 shots while keeping Disepapat 55 off the scoreboard to secure their first win of the tournament. 

West Wings vs Aussie Drop Bears (Molson Ultra 35+): 
The Wings opened the scoring in the first 3 minutes on a goal by #19 Karl Mueller. Mueller would add another goal late in the first period along with teammate #16 Jay Etherington to take a 3-0 lead into the second. Aussie Drop Bear #7 William Pollett was the lone goal scorer for his squad in the 8-1 defeat. 

Hopoki vs Lordco Islanders (Pizza Pizza 40+): 
There was no shortage of goals in this one as the teams combined for 5 goals in the first period alone. Hopoki player #20 Timo Lehtinen scored a hat-trick to lead his team to the 8-3 victory. 

Trangsund 55 vs Trojans (Cyclone Taylor Source for Sports 55+): 
Trojans skater #20 Rob Gurr opened the scoring early for his team finding the back of the net just over a minute into the game. The Trojan side would add 2 more additional goals taking a 3-0 lead into the 3rd. #53 Henri R. would break the shutout bid early in the 3rd but that would be as close as Trangsund would get as they dropped this one 3-1. 

Old Foxes vs The Mariners (Cyclone Taylor Source for Sports 55+): 
The Mariners #16 Greg Dunn would open the scoring before Old Foxes #10 Mika Suojanen tied the game on the power play late in the first. The teams would continue going back and forth with 3 goals in both the second and third period resulting in a 5-3 Old Foxes win. 

Fitchburg USA 60 vs Beer Buzzards (Westcoast Sightseeing 60+): 
The Beer Buzzards found their stride early scoring twice in the first frame. However Fitchburg USA 60 responded in the second with 2 goals of their own. The teams played to a draw in the third period which meant it was time for OT. While on the power play, #18 Richard Griffiths scored the OT winner to complete the comeback and provide Fitchburg with the 3-2 win. 

Warriors vs Ka Camp Ladies (McArthurglen Designer Outlets Women): 
The Warriors maintained their perfect start to the tournament on Tuesday defeating the KA Camp Ladies by a score of 5-0. #77 Debbie Beaudoin led her team with points in their second game scoring once and adding three helpers. 

Snails vs Aussie Magpies (Molson Ultra 35+): 
The Snails certainly didn’t start slow in their second game today throwing 31 pucks on net in the first period alone. Players #36 Joni Vuohtoniemi and #44 Tuomas Korpi both led the team with 4 goals each.  

Alta Tigers vs Roadrunners (iPlayHockey 50+): 
#75 Niklas S of the Alta Tigers scored 4 goals and added 1 assist as the Tigers carried the majority of the play handing the Roadrunners their first loss of the tournament. 

Tri City Dinos vs Quesnel Goldpanners (iPlayHockey 50+): 
The Quesnel Goldpanners shared the wealth offensively in their game against the Tri City Dinos having 5 separate players score goals in their 5-1 victory. The Goldpanners move to 2-0 so far and will look to maintain their perfect record in game 3 later this week. 

Vasby Legends vs Val d’Or 50 (River Rock Casino Resort 50+): 
Andreas Paulsson scored three times on Tuesday including the game-winning goal in the second period as the Vasby Legends faced off against the Val d’Or 50. Val d’Or staged a late comeback adding 2 goals in the final period but ultimately came up short dropping this one 4-2. 

Osteraker Mariners 50 vs Langley Bears (River Rock Casino Resort 50+): 
Overtime hero Dale Smith scored on the powerplay with 10 seconds remaining in the extra period to make the final score 3-2 for the Langley Bears. Thomas Olofsson of the Osteraker Mariners 50 led their team with a respectful 2 goals but ultimately dropped this one in the extra frame. 

HC Mehtimakelainen vs St Moritz Selection (Molson Ultra 35+): 
Both goalies put forward very strong efforts today as they each faced 30+ shots in this round-robin game. Goaltender Daniel Roschi came out victorious as the St Moritz Selected edged out HC Mehtimakelainen 5-2.  

Dangleberries vs The Simpsons (Vizzy 19+): 
The Simpsons kept their unbeaten streak intact as they went up against the Dangleberries in a tight game. Simpsons player #22 Tyson Lobb scored 4 more times making his total goals scored this tournament 8. The Dangleberries scored 3 times in the last period but ultimately came up short dropping this one 5-3.

Burnaby Fire Dep’t vs Richmond Cowboys (Molson Canadian 25+): 
Burnaby Fire Dep’t player #16 Kevin Hanna had a big second period scoring twice, one of which ended up being the game winner. Cowboy Kyle Ross scored late in the 3rd period to give his team a chance, but the Burnaby Fire Dep’t came out with a 3-2 win. 

HC Legion vs Ladner Fishermen (iPlayHockey 50+): 
Goaltender Chris Roberts was perfect in this one as he shutout his opponents and lead the Ladner Fisherman to the win stopping all 14 shots he faced. 

Italia vs Winroc Canadiens (Pizza Pizza 40+): 
Although Italia jumped out to a lead with a first period goal scored by #22 Marco Manfe, the Winroc Canadiens responded with 6 unanswered goals to make their way into the win column. Canadien #33 Shane Cebuliak led the offensive charge scoring a hat-trick. 

Surrey Beavers vs Brigade (Xbox 19+): 
Brigade player #16 Allan Kelm scored twice in this one as it seemed this game was destined for overtime. However with 3:27 remaining in the 3rd period, Brigade player #91 scored the go ahead goal which would end up being the game-winning goal as the Bridge defeated the Surrey Beavers 3-2.
Richmond Cowboys vs Fossils (Herbaland 55+): 
The Cowboys scored early in this one and never looked back. Led offensively by #21 Neil Grainery and #32 Amar Bath both scoring 3 goals and 2 assists. #8 Philip Primeau was the lone goal scorer for the Fossils. 

Nordic Trading House vs SN Storm (Molson Ultra 35+): 
After a scoreless first period, #29 Jukka Tiikkaja scored back to back goals in the second period to get his team on the board. Nordic Trading House would score a few more times before the SN Storm rallied for 3 goals late in the 3rd period but ultimately it was the Nordic Trading House defeating the SN Storm 7-3.

Britvegas vs Devs (Molson Canadian 25+): 
In a game where both teams directed 25 shots on net, Devs player #17 Brandon Campos buried the game-winning goal late in the second period. The Devs would add an insurance goal early in the 3rd to come away with the 4-2 win. 

Mixed Bags of Fury vs Smooth Groovers (McArthurglen Designer Outlets Women):
After 3 scoreless periods, these teams were destined for overtime where Smooth Grooves player #18 Ashley Specht became the lone goal scorer and the Grooves defeated the Mixed Bags of Fury 1-0. Big shoutout to both goalies Nerissa Hall and Eileen Volpatti in this one! 

Titans vs Wathla Warriors (Xbox 19+): 
The Titans scored early and often in this one as #18 Tyler Pollett got the party started within the first 90 seconds of the game. Titans goalie #1 Jacob Latrace would shut the door on the Warriors earning a shutout. 

Slakhawks vs Spare Parts Store (Lulu Island Winery 55+): 
Slakhawks player #7 Bill Grant put his team on the board in the first period before his opponents would rattle off 4 unanswered goals to win 4-1. #7 Jeffrey Legere scored twice in the final period which included the game-winning goal. 

Fitchburg USA 50 vs Blacksheep (iPlayHockey 50+): 
In what can be considered an epic comeback, the Blacksheep came all the way back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game in the final minute and ultimately force overtime. In OT, both teams exchanged chances until Blacksheep player #6 Gary Shepherd found the back of the net to take home the win.
