Day 4 – Game Recaps

Action continued on Thursday as teams took to the ice to compete in day #4 of the Molson CARHA Hockey World Cup. 

Global Oldtimers vs Schooners 70 (Lawrie Insurance Group 70+): 
The Schooners completed a perfect round-robin going 3-0 after defeating the Global Oldtimers in an early morning matchup. Skater #44 Mark Booth led the way for the Schooners scoring twice and adding an assist. 

Beavers 55 vs Richmond Cowboys (Herbaland 55+): 
In this close affair, #19 Lawrence Bourke would score with just over 3 minutes to play which proved to be the game-winning goal. The Cowboys would stage a strong comeback effort but would ultimately fall short dropping this one 5-4. 

SOHA 70+ vs Vancouver Flames (Universal Coach Line 70+): 
The Flames thought #34 Gary Little’s goal early in the 3rd period would be enough to secure the victory however with just over 5 minutes left, SOHA player #14 Anders Westman would tie the game forcing it into OT. Neither team could find the game-winner in the extra frame as these two played to a 1-1 tie. 

Lakers vs Peruspumppu (Vancouver Sign Group 65+): 
Goaltender Rob Reid made 24 saves as his Lakers found the win column for the first time this tournament. #27 Robert Martin had a strong performance scoring once and adding three assists. 

Calgary Hornets vs Goal Diggers (Xbox 19+): 
This 19+ Div game was face-past and action packed. 3 periods was not enough to decide a winner as they entered the OT period tied 5-5. #77 Magnus James would light the lamp to secure the win for the Goal Diggers. 

Northshore Huskies vs Richmond Cowboys 65 (Vancouver Sign Group 65+): 
Husky skater #18 Billy Scheer took matters into his own hands on Thursday morning scoring 2 goals and 2 assists as the Huskies defeated the Cowboys 5-2. 

Lindsay Pastimers vs Beer Buzzards (Westcoast Sightseeing 60+): 
The Pastimers and Buzzards would go back and forth with goals until Buzzards player #37 Al Henry scored what would be the game-winning goal with under 4 minutes left in the game. The Buzzards take this one by a score of 4-3. 

HC Legion vs Tri City Dinos (iPlayHockey 50+): 
#16 Craig Stevenson led the way for the Tri City Dinos with a goal and two assists. The Dinos ultimately defeated HC Legion 4-2. 

Slowhands vs Orient Express (Universal Coach Line 70+): 
The Express had a memorable minute in the first period as both #11 Raimo Majuri and #5 Bob Bradshaw scored to put their team up 2-0. The Slowhands would add a goal early in 3rd period before the Express would score two more to go on and win 4-1. 

Cyclone Taylor Sports vs SOHA Team Sweden (Vancouver Sign Group 65+): 
Goalie Mike Walz would turn away all the shots he faced as the Cyclone Taylor Sports squad defeated the SOHA Team Sweden 3-0. Special shoutout to SOHA goalie Ove Enryd who made 43 saves in the losing effort.

Old Classics vs Albion River Rats (Lawrie Insurance Group 70+): 
#3 John Hjort-Olsen found the back of the net with 6:19 remaining in the first period as the River Rats held on to defeat the Old Classics 1-0. 

Titans vs Surrey Beavers (Xbox 19+): 
After opening the scoring 3 minutes into the game on a goal by Titans player #11 Matthew Hill, the Beavers responded with 3 unanswered goals to capture their second win of the tournament. 

Wynd Breakers vs LSH Antiques (Universal Coach Line 70+): 
After taking a 2-1 lead into the third period, the LSH Antiques couldn’t hold on as #8 Tom Mountain and #15 Paul Singleton put the Wynd Breakers up 3-2 to secure the win. 

Alta Tigers vs Blacksheep (iPlayHockey 50+): 
The Alta Tigers came out hungry in this one scoring 4 times in the opening period. #6 Gary Shepherd would be the lone goal scorer for the Blacksheep as the Tigers win 6-1. 
HC Mehtimakelainen vs West Wings (Molson Ultra 35+): 
#21 Jani Lahtinen scored twice in the third period to put this one out of reach as HC Mehtimakelainen defeated the local Wings 4-1. 

Osteraker Mariners 50 vs Val d’Or 50 (River Rock Casino Resort 50+): 
Val d’Or was led offensively by #25 Michel Lafleur as they defeated the Osteraker Mariners on Thursday afternoon. 

Vasby Legends vs Ukkometsot (River Rock Casino Resort 50+): 
The Vasby Legends jumped out to a two goal lead in the first period and many thought that would be enough to secure the win. Ukkometsot managed to put a couple pucks in the net late in the game before ultimately falling short to the Legends 5-2. 

Snails vs SN Storm (Molson Ultra 35+): 
The Snails jumped out to an early lead and never looked back coming out victorious versus the SN Storm. #23 Mikko Palmu scored once but led his team with three assists.
