Richmond Recap: October Trip to our Host City

Our team jetted off to Richmond in the middle of October for a quick trip to check in on how preparations are coming along.

We settled into our home away from home, the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel. While most of our time on Day 1 was spent in one of the meeting spaces, you'll get a more unique experience! Our Host Hotel will feature the Athletes' Village, with plenty of activities being planned for your enjoyment throughout the week.

It was great to catch up with our partners in person as we met with Molson Canadian, Lulu Island Winery, Cyclone Taylor Sports, McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport, and Tourism Richmond.

Day 2 included travelling around the Richmond area as we started our venue tour. No trip is complete without a stop in Steveston Village, where we grabbed lunch. Plan more time to explore Fisherman's Wharf, where you can get fresh seafood all year long!

Richmond Ice Centre
First up on our venue tour was the Richmond Ice Centre. As part of the renovations, a new mural is featured on the outside of the arena! Upgrades have been happening around building, including the dressing rooms. The Richmond Ice Centre is home to many sports teams, including the Richmond Ravels Female Hockey Association, who we are proud to support!

Cyclone Taylor Sports is the region's go-to place for hockey equipment! Stop in at their Richmond Ice Centre store, or we'll have a shuttle available to one of the larger locations where you can browse their full selection. This is a great place to grab a Vancouver Canucks jersey for the game (more details available soon about Canucks tickets).

Minoru Arenas
Continuing along our tour, we dropped in at Minoru Arenas, host of our Feature Game. What a great venue for the televised game. Can't wait to fill these stands!

Richmond Olympic Oval
A trip to the Oval hightlighted our Day 3. Following our Planning Committee Meeting, we had some time to explore as well as check out the Richmond Olympic Experience. This highly interactive and dynamic experience is more than just a museum. Relive the greatest moments in Canada's sports history, and check out the competition firsthand in the interactive simulators.

This 2010 Legacy Venue will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and many games throughout the week. We're looking forward to seeing all our participants welcomed into the venue wearing country jerseys during the March of Athletes when we'll celebrate the opening of the tournament.
